Institutional Crypto Adoption Report: Mid-2026

This report ranks 27 digital assets by measured institutional adoption: ETF assets under management, named bank and asset manager deployments, on-chain real-world-asset value, and regulatory licenses. It is built from TokenSonar's continuously updated registry, which scans regulatory filings and 15+ news sources twice daily and scores only production-grade, publicly attributable activity. Key Findings

1. Institutional adoption is highly concentrated. TokenSonar's adoption index reads 86/100 when weighted by market cap but only 58/100 equal-weighted across all 27 assets. Institutions are deep in a handful of networks and barely present in the rest.
2. Ethereum leads every channel at once. At 91/100, Ethereum ranks #1 with live spot ETFs, roughly $16.1B in tokenized real-world assets (the largest RWA base of any chain tracked), and the broadest set of named bank deployments, including JPMorgan Chase, Goldman Sachs, and HSBC.
3. The regulated fund layer has scaled. TokenSonar tracks 108 crypto exchange-traded products across 6 regions, of which 90 are live and 18 are in filing. ETF access is no longer a Bitcoin-only story: spot products now cover ETH, SOL, XRP, and beyond.
4. Tokenization is the fastest-moving frontier. $35.4B in tokenized real-world assets sits across the 12 chains TokenSonar measures on-chain, led by Ethereum and Solana, with issuance from BlackRock, Franklin Templeton, and Ondo Finance in production.
5. Mid-table ranks are volatile. The largest recent mover is Sui, up 5 places to #7, showing how quickly named institutional deployments can re-rank mid-cap networks while the top 4 (ETH, BTC, SOL, XRP, all scoring 84+) remain stable.

What Separates the Top 4

Ethereum, Bitcoin, Solana, and XRP all score 84 or above; the fifth-ranked asset drops ten points to 74. The gap reflects a pattern in the underlying evidence: top-4 assets hold live spot ETFs, verified tier-1 institution deployments, and (except Bitcoin, an ETF Play by archetype) meaningful tokenized asset bases. Mid-table assets typically excel in one channel, such as a strong bank pilot pipeline, without the fund layer or RWA depth to match.

Methodology in Brief

Each asset is scored 0 to 100 across four evidence pillars: ETF assets under management, named bank and asset manager partnerships, on-chain real-world-asset value, and regulatory licenses, with a news velocity signal from twice-daily scanning of 15+ sources. Institutions are counted only for production-grade, publicly attributable activity; pilots without follow-through and unconfirmed press reports are excluded. Status changes to ETF listings require two independent sources. The full methodology is public at tokensonar.com/methodology.html.
